Cooper is 10 weeks old. He had improved with going potty outside....about 75% of the time....then, all of a sudden, he starts peeing indoors. Agreed, today it is raining and maybe he is an aristocrat and needs his own private bathroom if it is wet outside!! Is this a "bad day" of the "good and bad days"? Do they ever get 100% potty trained? Imagine the answer is NO. But wonder your experience with young puppies such as Cooper. Thanks.
Re: Potty training I would say he is young yet and plenty of time It may be an off day, or the rain, or even a change in household routine for a Saturday. Perhaps even a reduced vigilance since he was doing so well. Just stick at it, and use a non-ammonia based cleaner to try and neutralise the accident area. You are both doing good so far.
Re: Potty training Yes they do. I have always had dogs and all have been 100% potty trained. 10 weeks is very young - Tatze was 16 weeks before she was 'safe' and still had the occasional accident. Be sure to clean up with something like Simple Solution or watered down biological washing liquid. Other cleaners smell like wee to dogs. Keep it up - Cooper WILL get there
Re: Potty training This was me a week ago felt defeated ! But the lovely people on here inspired me to keep going and OMG what a difference a week makes. I brought the times back as in bringing her out every 10-15 mins also I was waiting till she had finished weeing and walking over to me so as she was just finishing her wee a I was praising her and giving a treat. And we have had no accidents in 10 days. So keep going you will get there I know it feels like you won't but you will izzy is 12 weeks.
Re: Potty training Absolutely - just a bad day! Pongo is 23 weeks now and completely 'gets' it now. (If only he didn't rely 100% on our ESP to know when he is sat at the door waiting for the magic door fairy to open it.... : ). At ten weeks he just didn't have the bladder control, even if he did understand that 'outside' is good. Until he was about 13 weeks the entire purpose of my life seemed to be a lavatory attendant. And yes, bad weather didn't help. But it passes, honest!
Re: Potty training As others have said, I'm also sure that Cooper will become 100% reliable with house-training in time and 10 weeks is probably too young to expect this. All my dogs over the years have been completely clean and dry in the house, barring illness, and I'm sure Cooper will too.
Re: Potty training Ah don't be down about this, you are doing really well,he's only little still, you've got really good foundations to build on so keep at your good work x
Re: Potty training By the end of the month you'll be thinking 'what potty training problem'. He's got the idea. Like a human toddler, sometimes he is too engrossed in what he is doing and sometimes he plain forgets. but you are on your way. You are in the slot where you have to be extra vigilant, at that stage I used to reckon if there were accidents they were MY fault
Re: Potty training He is still very young, too young to be reliable yet. A couple of weeks more and it'll be a lot better.
Re: Potty training Max is 11 weeks and we are still getting the odd pee inside - does great for a few days on the trot then will have a day of doing it twice in the house so guess those are his bad days - sure it will improve as they get older
Re: Potty training Thank you ALL for your kind words and advice and support! Much appreciated. This Forum is GREAT....so much experience out there!
