Do I have to wait until after puppys 12 week vaccination before I can take her to a toilet area in our garden?

No, she can and should be out and about in the garden - just be careful with meeting up with other dogs.

You should anyway be taking a pup out and about a lot, socializing him/her, while protecting the pup from direct contact with other dogs.

There are lots of great articles on here about socializing your puppy. It's an exciting time, and if this is your first dog it can be a bit daunting, knowing what to do and what not to do, but feel free to ask any questions on here, and we'll inundate you with lots of advice!!! :D :D :D

Hiya, I found the answer about taking her in the garden. I know she was been out with her family in the breeders garden but I want to double check, EVERYTHING!

We have a create for her too, I was not going to shut her in it at any time but after reading up on the training I think I will try it. I was just going to have it open for her in the kitchen, but I see now she will be safer and feel safer with the door shut for a little while.

Yes, my girl is just coming up to one year old now, and I still have the crate in the living room, though we hardly ever use it now. She likes it to relax in, and it's also useful if she has a bone to chew and it's too wet or cold to be outside, or if she's wet and needs to dry off...

She was the first dog I ever used a crate with, I used to think they were cruel, but now I realize just how useful they are! We took her on holiday last year when she was about 5 months old, and the crate came in very handy then too.

Your boys are going to LOVE Amy!!! :D

Ooh how lovely a new puppy :)

You can make the most of taking her in the garden while she sticks to you like glue and get your training and bonding started. There's some great info on this site.

We are def crate fans too. It makes your dog much more welcome in other people's homes too when you're visiting.

The boys are very excited, its nice to see my eldest be excited about something! ( he is a worrier )

He has remembered every word I have told him about what we need to do with Amy and repeats it often! I think the whole school knows we are getting a puppy now. (No secrets with kids around)
