Poppy nearly ate her today... Grabbed her out of the air as she was flying past! My, that dog has quick reactions... But me too - shouted LEAVE IT!!! and to my astonishment she did drop the poor budgie, who is shaken and looking a bit tattered and without her tail feathers, but amazingly alive and recovering with Joker (the other budgie) safely back in their aviary...

My other dogs were much more chilled about the children's various pets (you know the drill, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, hamsters...), but Pops has had her eye on the budgies ever since she arrived. Poor old Molly! Do hope she survives this ordeal.

Still can't get over the speed at which Pops grabbed the bird out of the air! And yet didn't bite it in half. Amazing.

Lochan can do the same! I`ve seen her take blackbirds out of the air when she flushes them out of hedgerows amazing to watch and she doesn't kill them either although she will catch and eat mice if given the chance. I'm never away from worming her! We had a cat years ago who regularly used to bring home a neighbours pedigree breeding/showing finches from an apparently catproof aviary - never admitted this publicly before......

Goodness me poor Molly, hope she is ok, but well done Poppy for releasing her.

Charlie did a similar thing with my daughter's guinea pigs, he got into the run and picked it up very gently, David saw him told him to "drop it" which he did immediately, but the poor piggie died of a heart attack. Low and behold he did the same thing to the remaining one the following week, same scenario but he didn't hurt them or even leave a mark on them. Grace has never let Charlie forget either  Helen x

Yeah, small animals and dogs with high prey drive don't seem to mix very well...

My niece has a rough and tumble Jack Russell - and has just bought her little daughter a rabbit... Cannot see that ending happily, either!

Actually, I am just remembering back to my childhood. The first time I ever realized what death is, was when our beagle got hold of and killed my budgie. Had forgotten that until now.

It was weird that he didn't hurt the piggies at all just very, very gently held it in his mouth. Piggies were old and couldn't cope with the stress of being held in a rather large Black dogs mouth. He did that with a Pheasant too, told to drop it, he did and off the Pheasant went to live another day!.

I remember when I was a child my dad had a budgie called Dinky and it could do a trick by picking up a coin in his beak and rolling it, very funny ;D, when all of a sudden our cat appeared from nowhere and the rest you can guess :( my dad was furious as he loved that budgie. Funny what we remember when something triggers it.
