Puppy is now 11 weeks old. Most times she holds her bladder the 4-5 hours it takes someone to return from work to let her out. All seems well right? Now and again though, she will up and pee on the floor for no real reason. Someone is available to let her out, but she gives no signal and does not ask to be let out. Simply squat and let loose. At 11 weeks do other puppies give a signal, bark, scratch, whine? ANything? I am worried shes "not getting it" really. Biting is diminishing some. SHe is also soft mouthing more and more.
Re: potty signals?? Don't worry, we had exactly the same. I think it is mainly about bladder control - our Pongo wasn't really in control til about 12 / 13 weeks, then it suddenly came right. It is partly about them learning to know when they need to go (as well as being able to 'hold' it with muscles). Hang in there, make sure you're not giving any excited or stressy reaction when she goes in the wrong place, give lots of rewards when she goes in the right place, and if your little one is like Pongo it will all come right! Incidentally, Pongo STILL doesn't give us any reliable signal for 'let me out the door', except to walk over to the door and look at it longingly. He just waits for the magic door fairy to open it. If we aren't in the room (or more likely have fallen asleep in front of the telly!) then eventually he just gives up waiting and goes on the doormat. :-[ We tried a 'doggy doorbell' but it only turned into a favourite toy. So now we are trying to develop ESP. : Will let you know how we get on. Rosie
Re: potty signals?? Sounds like normal puppy lack of bladder control that will improve with age. Meg did that a lot after a big drink, she is much better now at 13 weeks. She had quite a huge improvement in such a short space of time. Hang in there
Re: potty signals?? Relieved to hear it's normal. We have had a load of accidents lately, with no signal prior to it just squat wherever and pee. So discouraging so I'm relieved that it's normal!
