Hello all, I have a 10 month-old black lab called "Carapau". I brought him home when he was only 3 months-old, but I never house train him well, because I only started crate training him a couple of months ago, but still with no success. Before I started crate training I left him in a large balcony during the day, where he pooped and peed. He stays in the crate during the night and also in the morning and afternoon, in the Living Room. I come home during lunch to take him out. After two weeks I left him the balcony and he pooped and peed, so no success. Until last night he slept inside his crate in the Living Room. However, yesterday I had to clean my house and I left him in the roofed part of the balcony during the night (it's warm here), with the hopes he sees the balcony as his "house". This morning he had pooped inside the crate... Cleaned it all. Then when I got home during lunch he also had pooped inside... As anyone had the same issue? Do you think that as he used to poo on the balcony, the crate should NOT be placed there yet? Thank you for any help

Re: Help with crate train Hi there! Welcome to the forum. I hope the article has helped you. I guess a change in routines might have just upset your boy? He must have quite a strong association with toileting on your balcony, its still a surprise to me that he soiled his crate though. Where have you chosen that he should toilet? Is he getting enough opportunity to go there? And would he normally soil his crate? jac

Yes I believe he has a lot of association with pooping in the balcony, but his bathroom is not there, since I'm potty training him to do it outside. I was quite surprised he soiled his crate, because he has never done it before :/ Cheers!
