Horse bandage

Our last lab was afflicted by lick granulomas, happened almost every year from about 4 till we lost him at 13. Lots of different theories on what causes it but no one really knows, there's as many theories as dogs who are suffer from it.

Anyway, that's not the point. We used horse bandage to stop him licking the sore and had been using it successfully for years. It's not sticky, stays on, saves you resorting to the lampshade - our vet uses it for all sorts.

    But.......

Sam decided to chew it off and he ate it, bandage, dressing and all. We thought it had come loose on his walk. We replaced it, he did the same again but this time, we deduced he had eaten it. No trace of any part of it anywhere and he had never bothered with it before.

This is the not nice part and it pains me to write about it still but horse bandage, chewed into little pieces, stuck to his stomach and gut wall causing an obstruction. He never recovered from the operation to remove it all.

I wanted to share this, just in case there's anyone else using it and to warn you of the potential danger.

Oh Gordon, so sorry to hear this. Poor Sam.
Some dogs can get away with this sort of thing, but not so others.
Eating a harness would sound disastrous, but one dog can get away with that, whilst another ends up in surgery for eating a pumpkin stalk.

This must have been so upsetting.
Thanks for posting this warning, I am sure it wouldn't have been easy retelling it.
