I was on my walk with Hattie when from nowhere Sid the Flatcoat that I told you about appeared off lead, I called Hattie but she didn't listen and went to say hello and it was too late Sid laid into her without any warning and grabbed her on the back of the neck, bless Hattie she barked but no reaction toward Sid. His owner pulled him off Hattie, he had blood on his tongue so not sure if he bit it but there was blood on Hattie but I can't find a puncture wound. She was very apologetic and said she should have put him on lead immediately as he is so very reactive and has never met Hattie close up before. She also offered to pay for any vet bills. I am worried sick now that Hattie will be affected by this incident. Hattie seems fine and is asleep at my feet. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Oh no, what a horrible experience! Did you find any wounds on Hattie? Hopefully the other dog just bit it's tongue and there's no damage done. It sounds like the owner was ok about it though - offering to pay vet bills is a nice touch, but if she knows her dog is like that she should have had him on lead. You might find that Hattie is now a bit wary of Sid, and dogs who look like him, but if she has quite a confident, robust personality usually it shouldn't take her long to bounce back. I'm assuming Sid is black, as he's a flat coat? Just try and get her to meet a few nice, larger black dogs and she should recover ok.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( So sorry to hear this! How awful. Tummy rubs to Hattie. Hopefully the lovely, confident, sensible Hattie will brush it off.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Poor Hattie and you too Helen , its a horrible shock when something like this happens , I hope the owner is more vigilant in future, maybe keeping Sid on a long line until he learns more manners, hugs xxx
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Poor Hattie :'( I hope she's ok. Please give her tummy tubs from me and a hug for you xx
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( What a horrid thing to happen. Hope you and Hattie are okay. Alice
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( helen i am so sorry to hear this, what a shock, hope you and hattie are ok, sending hugs
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Oh Helen, big fright to you...I hope she is ok and you aren't both shaken up,by it too badly.....seems to be a run of our Forum Dogs having scares from off lead dogs
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( I wonder why he went in for the attack if she is a girl? Maybe he had had some dreadful experience early on and went for black dogs? If Hattie wasn't hurt I am sure she will take it as a 'dog thing' hopefully and not have a bad experience from it. Fortunately she lives with a black dog which may help.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Sorry to hear this Helen. Hattie is a sensible girl, so hopefully no long term effects. Ear rubs for you both
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Oh! How awful! Make sure you shrug it off quickly and she will too, hopefully.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( How dreadful, so sorry. You must be feeling very shaken about it. Definitely follow Lauren's advice about arranging some positive experience with other dogs, if you can. If you see Sid in future get Hattie on lead, give her a huge treat and calmly walk the other way. Try to stay relaxed.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Poor Hattie. Not a very nice experience at all. Hope this helps. A couple of years ago meg and I were in devon and we went to cardinham woods which I've now discovered is in Cornwall just outside Bodmin. Megs was off lead and there were quite a few other dog walkers there all with dogs off lead when from around a corner 2 german shepherd dogs appeared. I went to put megs on lead but the owner shouted that they were fine, very friendly. Well you can guess what happened. One of them got meg around her throat and the other one on her rear end. The owner couldn't get them off, meg was squealing, I was crying but then two male dog walkers appeared and one of them kicked the german shepherds under the chin to get them off meg. I quickly put meg on lead, and the two men started to walk me back to the car when one of the german shepherds tried to attack again. Well I won't tell you what one of the men said to the owner but there were a lot of swear words. Got back to the car, got meg in and sat with her calming her down. Bless her she was the one giving me kisses. But the point I want to make is that when Meg next saw a german shepherd it didn't bother her in the slightest. So hopefully Hattie will be ok when she next sees Sid or any other dog that looks like him. Lots and lots of hugs to you and Hattie. Meg sends lot of slobbery kisses.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( This is all very scary! It's got to be down to the owners hasn't it? I hope everything is ok. I am at a loss as to what to say. BLAST
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Oh what a horrible event for you both. I hope she bounces back. I just want to say that Honey got bitten and it affected my confidence around other dogs far more than hers. In fact hers wasn't dented at all. Much love to you both.
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Have you been out today Helen? How did you both get on ? Horrible about Meg ,bless her x
Re: Hattie has been attacked ;( ;( ;( Thanks for all you messages I really appreciate it Talk about timing, I got to the end of my drive with Hattie this afternoon and Sid was on the other side of the road about a little way down but Hattie saw him, I got her to sit and gave her treats until he was gone. She sat very calmly and showed no nervousness so I hope that all will be OK and that I did the right thing. We then met up with her lovely little friend Ted a 7 month old Welsh Terrier and they had a great time together xxx
