Re: Why doesn't the UK have dog parks??? Oh it never takes long before before the conversation turns to poo ;D I'm one of the biggest culprits too!
I don't think I could take Lola to a dog park. She has zero etiquette and thinks every dog wants to wrestle.
If I remember correctly I think you've told us you live quite rurally and it's tricky for you to socialize with many dogs?id still give her a chance when you do come across another dog if it's appropriate. I've got a dog with boisterous dog manners :-\ :-[ we are always looking for chances to work on it.in my experience it has only ever gone 3 ways.....1 . He finds an equal match and they have a good play 2. Dexter gets told off and takes himself off to play somewhere else or 3. the dog rolls over ,showing lots of submissive behaviour and I intervene ( he's not good a reading the signs there that he's too much :) either way he's had the opportunity to gain experience .I really appreciate that it's not easy,I've also been very lucky to meet some lovely dog owners out on walks that have helped me with this.....especially on reading the signs to know it's ok.....I can still be a bit quick to intervene in normal, energetic play at times :-[

Concentrate on the wafts of lavender, the deliciousness of apple blossom, the prettiness of the dickie bag - and block out the bit in the middle. ;D ;D ;D Instead of thinking Yuk!! Yuk! Yuk! I've got to pick up poo! ;D ;D ;D You still have to pick up the poo though. There is no getting away from it.
New fresheners arrived today! In the words of dickiebags... ;D ;D ;D image by julieandcharlie, on Flickr

It's a very small town surrounded by farms and fields. I do ask as we're approaching if Lola is ok to meet and greet on the rare occasions we actually see another dog and even ones who are normally good with other dogs get really short tempered with her. Lola can't take a hint at all and gets snapped at from time to time. I think cause we can go so long without seeing another dog, when she does see one you can see in her eyes she's is like "doooooooooog play play play plaaaaaaay!" I find myself apologising more often than not :'(
Re: Why doesn't the UK have dog parks??? I have much the same problem. Small town surrounded by farms and fields. Oddly we don't see many dogs when walking. The fields and farm bit sounds ideal, but the simple fact is that if you live rurally you know that fields have crops or animals in and farmers don't appreciate a large dog rushing around in them. I try to take Molly to a puppy romp which takes place in an enclosed field, but it is only once a week and something frequently clashes. We'll get there. Soon I hope as my shins are covered with bruises as she gets over excited when she sees another dog.
Re: Why doesn't the UK have dog parks??? It's not always easy I know,I live in a city where most dogs are really under socialized and in probably 75% of cases not even walked by their owners ....usually inexperienced paid help :so I do sympathise.Keep, using the opportunities you can ,I hope you get to puppy romp soon with Molly,it's the ideal place to meet people that might be prepared to come out and meet you on a walk at other times x
Re: Why doesn't the UK have dog parks??? You can take some comfort from the fact that although Charlie grew up surrounded by thousands of dogs - you can't move for dogs around here, and he met loads and loads and loads - he still gets that mad "playtime!" glint in his eyes when he sees another dog and is pretty much bonkers to go play. :. (We are much better these days, but not legging it off to play is still our biggest challenge).
