I'm contemplating geting a second dog as a companion for my 2 year old working Labrador. I'm very taken by working Cockers. Do you think the two would get on well together?

    Hi David

I keep both working cockers and labs. I find they get along just fine. Working cockers are the most brilliant little dogs, let me know if there is anything you would like to know about them.

Thanks Pippa. A friend has two working Cockers that work for their living on his shoot (one trained the other, now pregnant, learning fast). Next stage with Lady is to take her beating when he has some shooting dates. One of his dogs is due to have pups in 3 weeks time. Both mother and father have lovely temperaments and come from good stock.

Hi Pippa. Just put my name on a puppy (due to be born in a couple of weeks). Do you know if there are likely to be any problems if I choose a bitch. My Lab is a spayed 2 year old.

    Hi David

You can never predict for sure which two dogs will get along the best, but the vast majority of gundogs, dogs or bitches, rub along just fine. I have five bitches, there is occasionally a little bickering when one is on heat, but nothing serious.

In theory a dog with your spayed bitch might be the combination least likely to squabble, but not to the extent that I would let it influence my choice. You should be just fine with your new pup. Bet you cant wait!
