Hi, I know about not feeding dogs cooked chicken bones and I do feed those raw but I wondered if a roasted knuckle bones sold by our local pet shop are safe for Hattie & Charlie to eat? Thanks x :)

No - cooked bone is not good as it can chip and shard, raw bones are best, but the large leg bones not so much.

I've looked at these a couple of times - the ones in my local store seem to be smoked rather than really roasted. In which case, I think the dryness might make them super hard.

I guess there are few, if any, regulations about what a business can sell when the product is for a dog.

There is only one butcher where I live and when I have asked for bones he just gives us hard marrow bones so not really any good either once the marrow has been consumed. Will have to look in the super markets for knuckle bones.

I think the ones I saw were roased Julie, so I didn't buy any :)

I read somewhere can't remember where that you can feed frozen raw chicken wings, carcases etc. to dogs as it's excellent for their teeth, any ideas?

I used to give Penny a roast knuckle bone but her stomach decided it didn't like it and promptly ejected it a couple of hours later in very runny, yellow diarrhoea  personally I would avoid!

I think the bones are freeze dried, not roasted..?

    Either way, I'd avoid them.

Nothing wrong with raw chicken though, but I wouldn't bother freezing it. You want the teeth to slice through it for good teeth cleaning action for for that thawed is best :)

There's some good posts in the raw feeding section that will help.

No weight bearing bones at all; all other raw, meaty bones are good. You should see our pup getting stuck in to his raw chicken wings - he loves them! Good for their teeth too!
