Been to the vets, given antibiotics and drops for her ear too. Last night was awful, really barking cough till about 4am plus bringing up white froth. In herself she seems fine, eating and wanting to play and during the day she's hardly coughed at all. Fingers crossed for a quiet night. I'm beginning to feel I should be earning loyalty points at the vets,we've been so often!

Poor Molly and poor you, it is horrible to have to listen to them coughing. I hope the medication starts to work and you all have a better nights sleep.

    Oh poor love!

When I worked at the dogs home we used to give the dogs Benylin - the one you get over the counter in a light blue box that has dextromethorphan in, the dose is 1-2 mls for a 3kg dog so for a dog that's 20kg you can give 12 mls, up to three times a day.

Sorry to read about Molly having kennel cough. I was also going to suggest the Benylin which is what my vet recommended. I hope she gets better soon. I remember my dogs getting it years ago, they recovered well.

She should improve quickly, and the antibiotics will prevent it turning into anything worse, even if it's a viral thing. When Obi had kennel cough we were also prescribed antiinflammatories to sooth the urge to cough.

The painful part is keeping them away from other dogs. Our vet said no contact with other dogs for 10 dats after the coughing stops. What did your vet say?

Thanks for all your concern. She's settled down quietly so hoping for a good night. The vet said he did n't want to suppress the cough because it's productive. He said she should be better by the end of next week & if not to go back then. He also just said to keep clear of other dogs till the cough has gone - no specific time.

Molly had a much more comfortable night with only one bout of coughing. Today she seems as bright as a button.
