Puzzle is due her next season very soon, but as she is our first girl and has only had one season before we are new to all of this.

She is not her normal self, and has not been for a couple of days. She has been a lot more flighty. She is either in a cuddle monster mood wanting to be on someones lap all the time, no asking to come up she has just been jumping up and snuggling herself on the sofa next to us. Or she is curled up in her cage and refuses to come out, or on barley's bed and refuses cuddles even when dad invites her up, which is very unusual of her.

She is not swollen, her teats are still large, they don't seem to have come down at all since her phantom. She is her usual self around other dogs, laying on her back and being silly like that, she always has done this so this is usual of her.

We have got some tablets to put her on when she starts her season to stop her getting another phantom as she had some worrying swellings last time she had her phantom and it lasted a month and a half. We still think that vet was in the wrong not giving her galastop as that could have prevented the lumps but she insisted that she did not need it until the lumps formed and by then it was too late really as she has basically stopped producing milk by then. She had no behavioral problems with her phantom just milk, but we can't be sure that won't happen this this time, her season will put her of search work for a month or so and we don't want to stop again if she gets hormonal.

Her first season was at 6 months old, very early according to most people we spoke to. It was also very short, it lasted no more than 2 weeks.

We don't want to go rushing her off to the vets incase it is her coming into season as there would be no point.

The mood swings certainly sound like she may be coming into season.

Considering the problems she had last time, are you considering having her spayed, or do you not feel that would be the right thing for her?

It does sound like it could be symptoms of coming into season, but bear in mind that they can begin to show signs weeks before they are due. Penny starts becoming more reactive and nervous up to six weeks before, so even if it's a couple of weeks before she's due they can still show signs.

I remember your post from a couple of weeks back about her snapping at another dog? Couple with that it does indeed sound like she could be getting quite hormonal.

    Thank you for the replies.

We are getting everything prepared and ordered for her season to start soon.

We ordered a pair of hygiene pants fer her this morning so they should arrive next week, the dorwest herbs will be ordered probably at the weekend with the aim that they should stop her having a phantom, costly though (£58 for 12 weeks of tablets, a combination of raspberry leaf and evening promrose oil capsuals)
