My 3 year old black lab cries in the morning when he wakes, usually 5.30am ish. He is fine at bed time but cries if I go upstairs or out of sight during the day. He is a rescue dog so he is a little clingy. I have another 3 year old lab who is no problem.
Re: 5.30am Crying!! Hi and welcome What are your labs names? Could it be because of his background that he is afraid of being left alone? Photos would be nice if you can
Re: 5.30am Crying!! Hi lottym Welcome to the forum. Going to ask you loads of questions to help you with this How long have you had your rescue dog? Do you use a crate at night (or during the day)? Does your dog need to go out to relieve himself in the morning or is he just looking for attention? Does he sleep with your other dog? Not sure I will have the answer (although I am sure someone can help!). It sounds to me that you need to gradually extend the time your dog is on his own. I am pretty sure there was a thread on this recently......be back soon.... Jac
Re: 5.30am Crying!! Jac Thanks for your response, Woody has been with us for 6 months. Not sure of his history but very well behaved generally. He is not crated at night as our other dog, Maggie has been out of her crate for some time. They sleep together in the hall at home. He does not need desperately to go out and when I get up he quickly settles back to sleep. It doesn't seem to make any difference if they go to bed at 10pm or midnight he still wakes early and cries. Can't think of anything disturbing them (other than maybe birdsong).
Re: 5.30am Crying!! What happens if you ignore him ? You've probably tried it sorry. I have a whinger. Scott whinges for everything. Some things I have ignored and that has worked and some things I use a quiet cue to stop him.
Re: 5.30am Crying!! Yes have ignored him but goes on and on and on ...................... Quiet cue? sounds interesting.... I will investigate
Re: 5.30am Crying!! Hi lottym If you go on the main labradorite web site you can search for an article Click for Quiet. It has exercises to do to get your dog used to being left in another room and staying quiet. If you don't use a clicker I'm sure you can adapt it and it will still work. Sorry I need to learn how to do links. :-\
