After many trips to the vets and daily washing of his gunky eyes we've finally got a diagnosis of eye Ectropion. Only slightly thankfully and as Barkley is only 7 months the vet said he may grow into his face so may not need surgery.

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with their labs? I guess I'm after a bit of reassurance and advice from you lovely lot :)

Yes, Charlie had this, he grew out of it. I can see it now only rarely, when he is stressed or tired. All I have to do these days to keep his eyes comfy, is wipe his eyes and face with water when we get back from walks at this time of year (pollen), which might be necessary anyway. So no surgery required.

We had one gunky episode and it was mentioned....we washed Dexters eyes everyday with a product called 'tears au naturelle' and he grew out of it x

Hi I had this with one of my Newfies. He had to have the op as much more droopy than a lab. Ver straightforward with no probems at all. He was fixed instantly. I apprieciate he was not a lab though. I am sure your dog will grow out of it or if he does need surgery it's no big deal :)

Yes had this too, at first they diagnosed conjunctivitis, but later decided that it was simply a case of needing to grow into his head. Apparently more common in big headed labs! ;D

Same here, Sam had lots of lose skin, but I believe that skull to be slow growing , which can make the eyes look a little odd , Sam grew into his skin too, most do :)
