Average is around 9-12 months of age, but occasionally , a bitch wont come into season until 18 months , its just a question of watching for the signs as often , with a first season, there will be very little blood loss . Watch out for her becomming a bit more tired, clingy , drinking more but eating less :)

It is possible to miss a first season as bitches are often very good at cleaning themselves and the blood loss is uaully much lighter for the first, but it is usual for the vulva to swell a little so maybe it wasnt a season if you didnt notice swelling, stay vigilant though :)

Harley came into season at 10 months old. We thought that she was coming in at 7 months, then 9 as her behaviour etc changed a bit, but it wasn't the case. With Harley, we have no doubts she is in season as there has been a lot of blood, more than I expected tbh, but she is good generally at keeping clean. She is on day 10 now and has lost her appetite in the past 48 hours and is even more clingy.
From behind there is a massive difference in the size of her vulva.....it is easily seen now, but wasn't before.
    Hope that helps a bit.
