of course, puppies will make accidents in the house if we aren't paying attention or not there to take them out, naturally... But here is where i'm frustrated at... for 2 days, sadie was not making any accidents whatsoever, she would sniff at the door and look back at me (or my husband) and wait until we took her out and she went to her spot!
But today.... oh my goodness!!! I nearly pulled my hair out!!!!! She would walk to the door and just go. She didn't look back or whine or even sniff, she just walked right up to the door and peed and walked away. I took her out to her spot and she went there again. I cleaned the spot out very well. She did this 3 times today. Absolutely no sign. None whatsoever. I've been very good at watching her and watching when she drinks a lot of water and eats her meals... So today I let her play outside securely, she was out there for a good hour enjoying the outdoors... She was outside so obviously she would go, right? WRONG!
After her playtime outside I brought her in... RIGHT when I brought her in she went peeing on a different spot she never went before. She didn't give ANY sign, she was just chilling outside!!!! I just stood there with my mouth agape literally watching her pee... I literally was so shocked that she was outside for a full hour having the run of the yard that she held it in until she came IN THE HOUSE!
What does that mean???? Will she only go unless I literally take her to her spot??
I know i'm being unreasonable being frustrated at her accidents, but this one accident literally made me want to pull my hair! She had that whole time outdoors and held it in until she got in the house, and (i'm not exaggerating), she walked in and just went to her hearts content.
Am I doing something wrong here???

Oh also, what cleaning products do you use to really get the scent off the carpet so she wont be tempted to pee on it again? Or is there such a thing?

I can imagine the expression on your face!!

It doesn't make sense to us that a puppy would be outside for an hour and then come in and wee, but puppies don't think like us :) Despite her earlier 'signal at the door' behaviour she just doesn't understand that outside is for weeing and inside is not. She has to learn where it's ok to wee and where it's not, just like a human child. Human kids take years to master the idea that it's generally not the done thing to wee in your pants (or take off all your clothes at the public swimming pool....like my brother...). Puppies don't take years to get that stuff, but they do take weeks. She is only about 9 or 10 weeks old now, right? :) I would say that her earlier perfect behaviour was the aberration, not the weeing inside after being outside for an hour.

So, just to back to basics and take her outside very regularly, no playing or fun or treats till you get a wee (then immediately LOTS of praise, treats and games) and use a crate or pen inside when you can't watch her. She will get there :)

Hehe Thanks. Rereading what I wrote I laughed out loud how pitiful it all sounded! I just looked at her and told her, "You are still a baby... I forgot. i'm sorry.", I know i'm not the only one who has dealt with this, and am glad it won't take years! haha! I'm calm now and kind of sheepish for my rant, sorry. :) Thanks for the encouragement, she is my joy! I just got a bit "AHHHHHH!" for a minute right there. thanks again. haha :)

Don't worry, we've all been there. It's very early days yet. No baby, human or dog, was potty trained easily! :D This forum is the perfect place to rant, so rant away when you feel the need!!

Thank you, Lisa! I'd rather rant here than blow my top off at her! Hehe, I just had to calmly remove her away and then when I went back inside... I took a pillow and muffled my frustrated screams! ;) haha nah, I wasn't that insane, just a bit.
But is there any sprays either of you recommend to clean off scents?

Haha - screaming into the pillow is a great idea ;D

Generally it's recommended to use a cleaner without ammonia (which smells like wee) but with some kind of enzyme that helps to break stuff down. So, something marketed as a 'biological detergent' or 'bio-detergent'.

I actually just use a liquid carpet cleaner as it's what I have in the cupboard (we had a big spew here on the carpet this morning ::) ..and now he's whining because his breakfast got scraped up and put in the bin and he's hungry. Where's that pillow ;) ).

Nothing to add to the 'Back to Basics' advice you have had LILO86 , stay consistent and you will succeed.
Sorry Obi's been poorly :( he sounds like he's on the mend though if he's looking for some more food :)

Hi, this is the stuff I use. I don't know if you're in the UK or not so not sure how helpful this will actually be:

    http://www.simplesolution.com/products/stain-odor-solutions.html

Personally I've found it brilliant. I have the carpet spray. For a wee you can just spray the area and leave it! Or if you want to clean up more thoroughly (or for a poo!) you spray it on and wipe the carpet with a damp sponge.
They have a huge range of products including hard floor cleaner too.

I was recommended to use biological washing powder solution by my vet but it stained my carpet :(

I have ordered Urineoff from Amazon, before I had my wood floor laid I got the simple solutions for carpet (old cat). Just make sure that it is suitable for your flooring.
Nice to hear from you :)
