    Hello guys,

Thought we'd try and be helpful to the community after listening to our rant ref toilet issues yesterday :).

When we first setup Ozzie's Den area, he made camp in our dinning room which fed into the kitchen and overlooked the living room. This area was carpeted so we got some vinyl to cover the top, but we immediately hit a problem that obviously vinyl moves on top of carpet, and after a few play times all of the vinyl slid. So when Ozzie had an accident some wee could get through to the carpet kinda defeating the purpose.

Not sure if anyone else has a problem protecting their carpets from accidental spillage, but thought Id share what we now use as it works really well!

We got some self-adhesive carpet protector film (which is basically what is used by interior decorators/builders etc.)

We opted for the reverse wound (easier to lay) 100micron thickness (for them pesky claws) 60cmx100m (they do a 50m roll too which is cheaper)

For £35 quid express next day delivery I think its a bargain which would save you a fortune in potentially replacing carpets, and should last us till the remainder of his puppy years!

Before and after pics below, although didn't really lay this well on the first attempt recommend laying this with two people one pulls the other brushes to get the bubbles and creases out. This roughly should last 4 weeks then you take it off and put a new one on.
The way I laid this was first layer horizontally, second layer vertically, third layer horizontally. This is just to make sure there is no gaps where liquid can pass, we overlapped each strip with about 2 inches spare and also ensures its definitely thick enough to withstand the beating it will receive.

So far it has resisted the scratching, weeing, and pooing.
Hope this has been helpful to anyone who is in the same boat as us!

In the pics you will see the star attraction Ozzie, who is doing what he does best....sleeping!

I just replaced my carpet with laminate flooring.
I like the idea of a fenced off puppy area. I recently rearranged the loft after changing the flooring downstairs (long story) and found my cot for my two children (26 years old) and I am trying to figure out how to use the sides and base to make a puppy play pen. It was good to see your fenced off puppy play pen, thanks.

    Hey Jane,

We used a baby fire guard that we borrows from family and zip tied it to the Ozzies crate to make it a bit more secure for times when he jumps up at it. We are quiet lucky with the guard as you can bend each section in around 180 degrees radius which adds to the flexibility.

The only problems we are encountering is that he keeps chewing the metal posts!! He has so many chewing toys and has already chipped one of his teeth gravel outside.... :(

Thanks for sharing your invention ;D great idea, the pen looks perfect for him too.Is his toilet training progressing?
Ouch for the tooth? Is it a puppy tooth?Ozzie sounds like a very determined chewer if he's taking on the metal posts  I had a very keen stone cruncher ( if he got the chance ) and I was terrified for his teeth .we used to give him ice cubes to satisfy the hard crunching he seemed to like and frozen stuffed kongs saved us from probably having the house chewed down around us ;D

    Hey dexter,

Ye just his puppy tooth thank god! I'm hoping he will be out of this stage by the time his adult set come through!

Great idea with the ice cube! I have just given him one and I might sign him up to the hockey team he has been throwing it about all over the kitchen floor this morning!
