Hi all, My choc. Lab, Latte was a beautiful brown colour when we collected him from the breeders. Slowly most of his body has changed colour to almost black except his head. He is now 4 months old, and believe it or not his legs now seem to be turning to a shade of brown. His Mum was brown and his Dad was black. All the people he meets remark on what a fantastic colour he is which is lovely to hear. Has anyone experienced this apparent colour change? Ron and Latte
Re: Colour change,?? I haven't myself, no. Although previously on the forum, this webpage has been posted showing some fantastic colour variations of labradors. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/mismarks.html Your boy sounds lovely!
Re: Colour change,?? This is so interesting. Never knew you could get black and tan labs. Or all of the other markings. Fascinating.
Re: Colour change,?? Hi Ron, any chance of a photo of Latte? I'd be really interested to see. My pup's father is black carrying brown and her mum is brown. (Think I have that right :-\) I have been wondering about how her colour will develop too.
Re: Colour change,?? Chocolate dogs have no black genes (or alleles). That's not to say there aren't a host of other recessive genes that produce rare colour variations and that modify the action of chocolate genes.... But it's nothing to do with having a black parent.
Re: Colour change,?? Met the beautiful Bess the flatcoat on our morning walk, she's black and her dad was liver. She has some liver on her front left leg....it looks a little like she's faded in the sun
Re: Colour change,?? sorry all, struggling to figure out how to upload any decent pictures. please click on my sons drop box account below. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ekpf7psa93k3jzg/AAA6I3zsofCl14fU7Ne8jy7va thanks ron
Re: Colour change,?? He looks lovely! I don't think though that the variation in his coat is so unusual for a chocolate in his summer coat (and a very nice coat it is too!). There are lots of choccies with lighter heads - my boy has it too, but not so noticeable in the winter. Latte's variation is a bit more than usual though. You say he is 4 months? Possibly things might even out a bit as he gets a full adult coat.
