I think Haley has impetigo...she has red bumps on the hairless part of her belly/groin area, and there are a few pus filled bumps as well. She doesn't seem too bothered by them...she doesn't lick or scratch them at all which I take as a good sign. After doing some research online I learned it is a common occurrence in puppies and usually goes away on its own however hydrogen peroxide can help speed the process. I have been cleaning the area and applying hydrogen peroxide twice a day. We have a vet appointment next week for her final round of shots Has anyone had any experience with this? what did you do to cure it? and how long will it take to go away? We had about two good weeks of nothing medical-related popping up and then over the weekend this happened
Re: Puppy Impetigo My puppy had this and it isn't impetigo, cannot remember correct name, might have been Pyoderm. I washed his affected areas with dilute Hibiscrub and applied Sudocrem to the spots before we went out and after he had been washed with the dilute Hibiscrub. This cured him completely. As they get older the skin gets 'tougher' so it isn't so easy to get bacterial infection.
Re: Puppy Impetigo ah ok thanks! is it contagious? I take her to a puppy daycare twice a week for some socialization...I kept her home today because I wasn't sure if she should be around other puppies or not
Re: Puppy Impetigo Oh great! thank you I put a thin layer of Sudocrem on this evening and gave her a toy to chew on..hopefully it helps! It is starting to look a little better, no new bumps
Re: Puppy Impetigo Forgot to mention that the Hibiscrub and Sudocrem were directed by my veterinary surgeon
