Our pup Barkley is 8 months now so I guess not such a pup anymore and we took him on at 3 months. He's never really been a lap dog who sits on the sofa with you and enjoys cuddles but used to lay with you if you were sitting in the floor and he used to sleep on the floor in out bedroom every night but in the last week he's stayed downstairs by choice and just come upstairs at 6am to jump on the bed for food and off an evening he lays in the lounge with us but away from us in the doorway or by the window etc. it's just odd! Nothing has changed at all so can't really explain it and he is his usual self but just likes to chillax on his own. I'm left feeling a bit hurt like I've done something wrong. Sounds mad doesn't it as he's a dog but I know you all loves your labs just as much :)

While I'm here lol....any tips for neutering recovery as he's getting the chop in August xxx thanks all!

    Re: Behaviour Change - Normal?

Hi, are you in the Uk? The weather has been a lot warmer in the past week or two and is making a big difference. My pup is in season, but has always slept on our bed at night, and on the sofa during the day when I'm home. The past 2 weeks she generally sleeps on the floor by the patio doors in the living room or in the hallway (we have parquet flooring downstairs). At nighttime she has been sleeping on the floor in the ensuite as it has Lino on the floor. I think it's because of the weather that they are struggling to cool down. Hope this helps a bit :)

He could be just feeling a bit hot and bothered so is preferring to lie down or sleep where it's cooler eg. not next to you or on your lap etc.

It's also possible he's just gaining some independence as at 8months he's entering the adolescent stage (like a teenager!) and is trying to find his own space.

As soon as I started reading your post I thought the weather. It's quite surprising how their behaviour can change from hot to cold weather. As soon as we get back to normal, in other words cold and wet, I bet he'll be cuddling back up. ;D

Yes - I don't get sofa cuddles in hot weather!

She also kicks the blanket out of her bed and lies on bare plastic.

Same here - total change of resting spot and I attribute it to the weather :)

Really hot where we live and our dog wants to be with us until he gets too hot then he goes and lies on the tiles to cool down ....
Just a note to say that I noticed a slight change in affection with Dexter after he was neutered ,not radically but he seemed a lot more inclined to want to lie with us.....he wasn't allowed on the couch either at that point!he got a whole lot more affectionate at about 16 months when we started letting him up ;D
