In the 11 days since Nellie arrived we have been setting our alarm in the middle of the night to prevent any accidents in the crate.
We have slowly moved the time from 2:30 to 3:30 and each time we have gone downstairs we have had to wake her up to go out for a wee. Each time she has gone for a wee and gone straight back to sleep without any major issues although this morning she was up again at 4:40!
I obviously don't want to form a habit of getting up each night but I also don't want to let her know that when she whines we come.
We got her at 7 weeks so she is still only 8 weeks old, ( 9 weeks Tuesday) so do you think we should continue to do this until her bladder is a bit more mature or shall we just stop before it becomes a habit?
    Any thoughts/tips would be appreciated.

I stopped waking Tatze at 3am when she became really hard to wake up, she clearly didn't need it (about 11 weeks old) She then slept from 10pm to 5am for a week or two. After that it became whatever time I came down to her, as it still is now.

We stopped waking Penny when the time got to about 4:30 as I was getting up about 6:30 anyway. At that point I started getting up at 6 for a few weeks to compensate a little and she seemed to cope well with this.

I think you should let Nellie sleep... If she is consistently waking up at 4.40 maybe set you alarm a little before that so you can let her out for a wee before she cries, then go back to bed to whenever you would normally get up! We got Juno similar time to your Nellie and we have stopped the 3am toilet as she was asleep but still getting up half 5 at the moment! Yawn!

I only got up in the night for the first 3 nights, when Molly cried to go out. After that she slept through - till 6 am for a couple of weeks and then gradually later. (Mind you I had her in the bedroom with me till she was about 14 weeks.) I wouldn't set an alarm if I was you.

Thanks guys for the suggestions! Think I might set the alarm a lot later as you suggest Annie and see what happens and aim for no alarm by the end of the week.
