I have two senior labs, male and female that are well behaved, active and outgoing. They are almost twelve and thirteen. Thinking about adding a new puppy to the family, they would be great role models. Can anyone share their experiences with this?

Hi and welcome from me and Sam, my 21 month old black Lab boy .
I have had experience of adding a pup to an older dog but not as old as your two . I guess a lot depends on how easy going they both are ?
I also had Sam as a pup with an older dog, it was fine because he is very non confrontational and when the older one had had enough of him , she would tell him in no uncertain terms and he respected her from day one .
Pups will be pups and without a shadow of a doubt , your older two will have times when they wish to be left alone, but most pups will accept and respect . In my case , getting Sam gave my older girl a new lease of life and she began to really enjoy playing with him ( when she felt like it !) so, if your two are sociable and tollerant , i`d say go for it :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum,

Some oldies really love pups and it gives them a new lease of life. Others, not so much. Integrating a new puppy tends to go smoothly enough provided you make sure that the older dogs can get away from the puppy whenever they want to. Some won't want to know until the puppy has passed the biting stage. :D

Thank you both for your replies. If and when we get a new little one, I have a younger lab neighbor who will be an active playmate for the puppy. My sweet older labs have great manners and behaviour. I would definitely take care that they would get their peace and quiet. They still love their crates and sometimes retreat there when they want a rest!
