Hi, Haven't really been about for a couple of weeks due to Easter hols, hope all well and hello to anyone new Digby is now 7 months and seems capable of holding on for a huge amount of time. He usually goes to the toilet around 8 pm and then settles down with us for the evening. I do try to encourage him to wee when we go to bed, 11.30 ish but usually to no avail. He then trots off happily to bed until around 7.30 am. After nearly 12 hours without going I would expect him to be desperate but no. He has been hanging around waiting to greet all the family as my boys appear in dribs and drabs over the next half hour, then he has his breakfast at about 8 then finally goes out...that seems ages to me but being my first dog I thought maybe that's perfectly normal?? I do love the fact that he greets each boy for a few minutes, then waits patiently at the bottom of the stairs for the next one to appear for his particular ritual.
Re: Bladder control Lovely to hear from you I used to worry myself sick that Sam had some sort of illness because he was/is the same as Digby, he never ever had an accident indoors even as a tiny pup and even now , at 21 months, has to be prised outside at 10.30 for his last wee . Then in the morning, he is more worried about his breakfast than going outside, so dont worry , i guess like humans, some can hold on and others cant , we must both be very lucky indeed
Re: Bladder control Absolutely - very lucky. Digby too was a doddle to toilet train and only ever had a handful of accidents over the first 2-3 weeks. Wish I could say the same for my youngest son - he's 3 and finally getting there but has been shocking, maybe I should have tried crating him and taking him outside every half an hour ;D : ;D
Re: Bladder control Thats so lovely, to hear how Digby greets the boys every morning , they are so lovely with children arent they ? We had our five year old grandson here for most of yesterday , Sam was shattered by the time Silas went home, he had spent most of the day being skipper of a lifeboat and saving Silas`s life because the sea ( carpet ) was full of sharks ( dog toys ) Had a wry smile at your 3 year old , Silas was exactly the same at his age and beyond too if I`m honest and yes , a crate might have been the way to go
Re: Bladder control I am more than delighted how he is with my 3 boys, they are 10, 8 and 3. He is only a baby himself and yet seems to read them so well, one of my boys is very gentle and a little awkward and Digby ALWAYS goes straight on to his back for tummy tickles, never trying to get near his face which he would hate. He plays with the 3 year old, bounds along next to him but never knocks him over, nibbles him but never nips (any more!!!) and rolls around on the floor with him without getting all excited and crazy. My other boy was not at all bothered about getting a dog and paid him little attention for the first 2-3 months but he has somehow wormed his way into his affections and he now pets Digby a great deal. He displays completely different behaviours with each child - quite fascinating really. This temperament was exactly what I was hoping for when choosing a labrador as our family pet (he seems a lot like his mum). It helps to bear this side of his personality in mind when it also drives him to charge 200 m away from me across the park to say an incredibly enthusiastic hello to some poor jogger. :-[
