Hello everyone ;D My lab is almost 7 months old and for the past week or so he's become really bitey, I can be sitting on the sofa and he'll jump up to bite me, no blood or anything but it does hurt. I've tried leaving the room but he'll jump up my legs or he'll bite my trousers. I then turned to toys but sometimes that doesn't work. I thought it was because he wasn't getting enough exercise or mental stimulation so I increased them both. I know labs are like little crocs but just lately he seems to be going to extremes. Im worried he might nip someone who comes to my house! A lot of people say that this is a phase but how did you cope with it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Many thanks Victoria & Max
Re: Issue with biting :-\ It's definitely not fun when they do this with adult teeth! I've had the same experience. To the dog it's a fun game, just done in play, but it does need to stop. Use exactly the same approach as you would with a little puppy - ending interaction and time outs for biting. If you are consistent this approach will work and he'll become trustworthy with his mouth again This link goes to an article that brings together all the info and tips on biting on the main site. Have a read: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/your-labrador-puppy-biting/ Ignore the fact that it's mostly about puppies - the same rules applying to dealing with play biting (which is what it is) in an older dog.
Re: Issue with biting :-\ I know how you feel. Buddy went through a spate of this recently, but thankfully it quickly passed. Hang in there!
Re: Issue with biting :-\ Edsel went biting crazy at about 4 months. We're at 5 months today and it is calming down. He was teething like mad!
