Just wondering if there is a science based explantion as to how dogs tell the difference between men and women ? Millie was fearful of men when we first had her and even after a year , she is still guarded around men, more timid than she is around women .It surely cant be just the look, as many females wear jeans and have short hair, or is it the voice ?
Re: Is there an explantion ........... I'm sure someone will be along with the science but I think scent has a lot to do with it. Different hormones and what not.
Re: Is there an explantion ........... I wondered about the scent too Stacia, but science was not one of my best subjects
Re: Is there an explantion ........... I don't know the technical science stuff but I think it is scent and pheromones. : Apparently so it's said (haven't got a clue if true probably old wives tail) but women are more successful when fly fishing for salmon because the salmon detect and are attracted to the female pheromone. ??? My dad would get mum to tie the flies on his line just incase. Didn't help much. Presumably if a salmon can tell the difference a dog can.
Re: Is there an explantion ........... I read (in my puppy book - Ian Dunbar) that dogs are ultra sensitive to expression and body language and men and women are poles apart in terms of dog friendly body language and facial expression. I think there was an article about this in Dog Star daily....I'll see whether I can fish it out.
