Hello, I noticed yesterday that a smallish white/pink lump has appeared where my dog has his stitches from his castration. He was castrated 4 weeks ago and had his stitches removed two weeks ago...all was going well until I noticed the lump. It looks a little bigger than yesterday. Has it gotten infected? It doesn't bother him. Thank you for any advice Victoria & my best buddy Max
Re: A lump?! I would definitely get him checked over by the vet as you don't want to mess with something like a castration wound. It should be fully healed by now but if he's been licking it the healing process could be longer. I've know dogs open up their wounds again a few weeks after the op by licking it.
Re: A lump?! I only have experience of post spaying but about a week after the external stitches were removed Kenzi did develop a lump/blister looking area at the top of the incision. Took her to the vets & it was a reaction to the internal sutures so she was on anti-biotics for almost 2 weeks but was then fine. Also because it was related to the surgery it didn't cost anything, not sure if it's the same for you but would definitely recommend speaking to you vet if you're not comfortable with it.
Re: A lump?! I agree I'm afraid. I've had no experience of this but if it was my dog I'd go to the vet especially if you think it's got bigger. :-\.
