Charlie went off lead in the woods yesterday with David and Thomas he behaved beautifully having a run around and always returning to the whistle, keeping in sight :) He returned one time and his mouth/muzzle was covered in blood dripping like something out of a horror film, he looked worried and stayed close. When they got home we cleaned and checked him over he had a cut on the lefthand side of his tongue and it is pretty swollen and still is today, he can still eat and drink as normal but I bet that's painful :( I wonder if he cut it on brambles, barbed wire or something sharpe, I can't think what could have happend :-\ I googled it and apparently a dogs tongue can really, really bleed heavily. xx

Yes, a dog's tongue can bleed heavily. My GSP cut her tongue at about 3pm and it didn't stop bleeding until nearly midnight. Because I had worked for a vet and knew you couldn't stitch a tongue, I left it that long. Vet friend told me she could have 'bled out' - I felt very guilty, so do watch Charlie. Poor girl carried a big scar until her death.

Yep, tongues bleed like fury. Poor Charlie, glad he is enjoying his off lead time though.

Poor Charlie. I hope he is feeling better. What about an ice cube to crunch or some crushed ice if it's still a bit swollen. I bet he'd like ice cream and he deserves a little treat for doing so well with the whistle. (I'm trying Charlie) ;)

Aw poor boy! Yes tongues can bleed something awful! You think they've got a terrible injury but it turns out to be just a little nick. I bet it's sore for him though. Ice sounds like a good idea and if it were me I'd give him a dose of metacam for a day or two if you've got some lying around, might help to make him more comfy.
