She loves to chew everything she shouldn't. She chews furniture, carpet, etc..Is this normal? She is very destructive. We have to put her in her kennel when not around us. We give her exercise and plenty of chew toys and bones...But she still chooses to chew our furniture. She has an underbite and I wonder if her teeth hurt yet? Is this normal for a one year old dog?

Some of the Labs I've had were "Chew Monsters" till about 2 to 2-1/2 YO. Chewed everything up if left un attended for even short periods of time. Both inside and outside environments. They are somewhat of a working breed and need activities to keep them occupied. Working with them daily to train discipline helps a lot. Things like sit, come, fetch, etc...

Rex grew out of the excessive chew at 1 1/2 - 2. Zeke and our other dogs never had it. Rotate toys and check for damage often. Rex had a blockage that needed surgery cuz he swallowed a piece of a neighbor kids doll so be vigilant! Antlers were something we used. Some have said they are too hard and may chip a tooth.

Have you tried spraying the furniture with something bitter? We simply did not leave Rex out of the kennel unsupervised.

It's frustrating but you are not alone. Search the forum for past threads too.

    Good luck!
