I have just noticed Amy is having her 1 st season. Just as she was beginning to recall after playing with other dogs too! at least we will have time to practice the whistle recall, and heel work, and find it and touch it and wait and stay and lots of other games! Can I have a reminder of what I need to do to care for her and expected timings etc? She has been fine in her self this morning, actually a bit whinny and following me even more than normal.
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Oh bless her, proper grown up now x Amy may be more clingy Jade and may need to pee more too . The season will last for 3-4 weeks , err to caution as Millies lasted 26 days . She will not be interested in male dogs at first, but around the 2nd week, she may behave like a little tart , bitches are just as eager to mate as male dogs , so vigilance is the name of the game . Most bitches keep themselves clean , no need for pants etc. unless she doesnt clean herself . She may go off her food a little ( Millie didnt ) . x
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Thank you. I have told my neighbour if she notices her dog going wild, it's Amy's fault! Do I count it from today?
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Oh Amy,what a Brithday present!good luck Jade, hope, she comes through it easily x
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Yes Jade, if you have only noticed it today , count this as day one x
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Don't worry Jade, it will pass quickly. Just keep her on the lead, and avoid entire male dogs wherever possible
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Aw what a nice birthday present haha! When Penny had her season I still walked her but I never let her off lead and we didn't visit the parks we normally go to - just walked her around the streets and played some ball games in the garden. She really missed her off lead time though. Pen started her first season the day my partner and I got engaged! Lol they do choose their moments!!
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Oh nice present, be sure to keep her on lead. I kept Hattie on lead and you wouldn't believe the amount of unwanted male attention she got I spent a lot of time chasing off lead male dogs and Hattie never once behaved like a tart, I am proud ;D
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! I already feel sick thinking what if I missed her first few days and she got caught already. ( I am sure we would have noticed! Was never out of my sight off lead and on Sunday morning she was playing with a black lab and he never showed any extra interest. )

( I am sure we would have noticed! Was never out of my sight off lead and on Sunday morning she was playing with a black lab and he never showed any extra interest. ) [/quote] Don't worry; she won't actually be receptive until around the end of the second week, when the blood will change to a kind of watery discharge. Most bitches won't let males near them until that time, then suddenly they start 'flagging' their tail to one side to encourage mating. But you can never be sure exactly when this will happen, as each bitch has her own, special physical timetable, so until you have had several seasons you have to be extra vigilant. I am certain though that everything is ok, don't worry.
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! What Karen says Millie was actually very grumpy with male dogs for the first ten days to two weeks , no way would she have allowed them anywhere near her back end , dont worry Jade x
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Actually she won't even let me clean her and normally she lets me dry "down there" after her walk. We are C & T when she lets me touch her with the towel. Not great but best we can do for now! We have been doing lots of clicker training, and she hasn't shown signs of been bored yet!
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! In that case, you'll probably notice even more clearly when she at the most receptive period. When you dry her off, run your hand down her flank and over her back towards her tail. When she is getting to the 'dangerous' stage, you will probably notice that she flags her tail to the side. Obviously, don't just rely on this as a sign, though!
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Update... She is been a little star this week, hasn't show any signs of missing her walks ( yet ). She seems a little quiet this morning but maybe that's with the boys been here she has to be quiet as we busy with them. I tried walking her early morning last week at 6, but we saw three people even at that time so didn't get very far. I didn't want her to pick up on my nerves about seeing dogs. if she wasn't my first dog I would understand her body timings better. And be more confident to take her out. Also if two of us could go I would have felt better too. I am sure this time next week I will be tearing my hair out coping with her boredom!
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! So, no discharge from her today. Is that any clue to how long we have left?
Re: 1st Season on her birthday! Been reading up, says don't be fooled. She is most likely at the most fertile time!
