Pinch pinch pinch that is all Rolo does. I do my best to follow the children around picking things up after them but there is only so much one woman can do! He ran under the dining table with a sock tried coaxing it off him, no chance down in one. Telling the kids off for leaving a sock lying about and he's got another didn't even begin my coaxing and it was swallowed. Getting really stressed out. He's done this before and the sock was brought back up a few days later I was told how lucky I was it came UP, fingers crossed it does again! Going to bang my head against a brick wall.
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Special bribes for the kids in order me thinks 10p per sock put away properly?
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Great idea. Nicking socks is annoying but swallowing is really stressful!!! Poor you. I would definitely try Boogie's idea as prevention is the cure here I think
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Good idea. I have clever kids they will wear several pairs a day! Lol. Will the pinching ever get better? Will he ever just walk past a sock? a pen? a shoe?
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! He may well have a lifelong sock fascination, unfortunately... It's important to try not to make an exciting fuss when a sock is nicked (very hard when you are trying to prevent swallowing....) or do anything to make stealing items fun. That is not easy... The best road is to not allow any access to socks or shoes etc. We have a sock and shoe stealer to and have managed to confine it to him bringing us these items when we're watching TV.... If we totally ignore him he chews them (holes in socks and missing shoelaces) so we take them from him without a fuss or treat. That level of attention is enough to maintain the behaviour, unfortunately, but it's a compromise because at least we get our stuff back intact. And I should take my advice about not leaving stuff lying round
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh!
1st sock returned.
Good. Does he prefer clean ones or smelly ones? Just make sure nobody tries to retrieve a half-swallowed sock - that can evidently do more harm than good, frustrating though it is to watch it disappearing!
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Glad to hear it. And seconding that advice not to hasten the exit of anything that appears at the read end....
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Ah, how stressful! Rue is this way with paper towels! She has eaten two this week so far.
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! I can sympathize. I have on order a new work laptop charger cable. Thank God it wasn't plugged in when Bailey got it but still, it can be exasperating. Hope all comes out well in the end for you, haha.
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! 2nd sock returned! He was barking last night and hubby said I've just seen the sock I told him not to be daft. This morning in his crate is the sock. Bless him, made no fuss bringing them both up during the night just got on with it. The offending article sat in the crate with him till i got up and realised, he didn't re eat it bit as i carried it away his interest returned and I'm sure he would have gobbled it up again. Duh!
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Hi, Ozzie has a bit of a sock thing, what we discovered worked with him, was to ignore him taking it, and just pick up on of his toys and slowly walk up to him and say swap and take the sock out of his mouth and put the toy in his mouth, but we have discovered this needed to be a quick swap to begin with now it can be slightly slower, but he will always swap now, might be worth trying that, don't chase or pay any attention to him when he takes it, and just do swap with him. Hope you can get this sorted
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Well worth a try. We are at the in laws and they have stuff everywhere just normal clutter, i have cleared all mine away as I have a puppy. He has been as good as gold tho no pinching or chewing.
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Glad to hear all ended well. The pinching is maddening, to be sure. Simba had a pencil fettish...well, HAS a pencil fetish. He finds one (or a pen) they are goners. The only thing that works for us is a swap for a treat.
Re: 2 socks 1 day! Argh! Lol. We have left one of my in laws and now at the others and he was such a good boy. He didnt pinch anything. I can't believe it. So nice to be around "doggy" people. My family are not "doggy" people where as OH's are. Although they did allow him to jump up and get on the sofa!
