Tonite, our almost 4 year old spayed female chocolate, got into the garbage and grabbed on to a used diaper. She took with it although I told her to "drop it". Those words usually work. But tonite, when I finally got her, as I tried to get it from her, she was not wagging her tail in play, and she would not open her jaws and started to growl. I was shocked...she has never done this before, even with a bone. Then my husband tried to take it from her and she growled and snapped at him. What would cause this behaviour? She has always been the sweetest girl. Thanks for your ideas. Debbie
Sounds like possessiveness. You barked at her, squared up to her and barked at her. Then she squared up to you, right? You need to teach her a reliable retrieve so that everything she picks up, she brings straight to you to swap for something even nicer. There will be lots of posts on here with some great advice.
