    Hi,

Trying to gauge opinion regarding the amount of exercise a 6 month lab should get each day. I have read the 5 min/month of age recommendation but wanted to ask your thoughts.

I tend to walk Scarlett for 20 mins in the morning and then 30/40 mins in the evening. She spends quite a bit of time in her crate during the week. Her exercise varies between, lead waking, off lead and running after a ball or other dogs.

Do you think this is too much or about right?

    Thanks
    Guy

This was being discussed earlier today but in relation to a 3 month old puppy

With Juno I exercised her on the 5 minute rule so a 30 minute walk at 6 months. Her breeder said that exercise should be restricted to 30minutes until a year old, which I didn't stick to as it seemed a bit excessive. Juno also used to have a training session in the garden together with some play and a few walks around the garden during the course of the day. Once a week we have also joined a walk with our dog trainer which is between 60 and 90 minutes a time.

If you take the 5 minute rule to mean 5 minutes per month but twice a day you're pretty much in line with that. As long as you're not up and down steep slopes and allowing lots of up and down stairs, jumping etc I would think that Scarlett should be fine.
