My puppy is happily crated in our garage. He always goes right in (I give him a tiny treat at bedtime) and does not whine or bark. In the morning, about 8 hours later he whines a bit and barks for us to come get him, but in general he has been fine in his crate whether in the car or at bedtime. All of a sudden he is spooked by his crate and wont go in? I have tried putting a few treats in and he will step maybe one paw in to grab the treat and then duck out again. Last night I had to "crate" him in his 4 x 4 pen because he would not go in the crate. I read it can be helpful to try to feed him in his crate, gradually moving the bowl further in. This morning he did eat his food with his head in the crate LOL but would not step inside. Am I on the right track? Do I need to put back some positive associations with the crate? Not sure if maybe the swinging door spooked him at some point or what is going on? He has exibited other stubborn behavior before recently (such as laying down on leash walks). I know he is at an age where he is testing things! Thanks for any thoughts
Re: 6 month old puppy suddenly won't go in his crate Hi. Can't give you any advice on how to get him back in as my puppy is only 14 weeks and is crated in the house. The only thing I can think of is maybe the garage door has been rattled late at night and scared him or something knocking against it??? Sounds like you are going along the right lines by associating the crate with good things. Hope you get things sorted. Ternaya and Harley

Re: 6 month old puppy suddenly won't go in his crate The weather has changed, maybe he feels cold at night in the garage, hence he is reluctant to go in the cage? Just a thought.
Re: 6 month old puppy suddenly won't go in his crate Thank you Pippa! I will try this. And thank you for your Total Recall book. I am enjoying that! Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I will update my progress.
