Six weeks today since Juno's operation and we've been to the vet's today for new x-rays, so we're now sitting waiting for a call from the vet with a report back from the orthopaedic surgeon. How I hate sitting waiting for phone calls! Juno was a little star in the vets though and went off happily and layed still for the x-rays so didn't need any sedation. Apparently she worked very hard to do what the vet and her assistant wanted - think I should have done a bit more training using French recently not just English ;D Hydrotherapy yesterday was a great success with Juno having a brilliant time and swimming really well and retrieving toys with little encouragement. She wasn't too keen on walking down the ramp into the pool but once in it she was really happy. I think she would have stayed in all day! The therapist told us to increase one of her walks again either tomorrow or Friday to 10 minutes so fingers crossed all goes well for that. Now if only the phone would ring ....... :
Re: 6 weeks down...... Of course the phone had to ring while we were having dinner but who cares when it is good news ;D The Orthopaedic Surgeon is happy with Juno's elbow - whoopee! There is currently no sign of inflammation which is a relief after the recurrence of a limp last Thursday but cautioned that she will always suffer from arthritis - poor little girl - as he had told me back in February at our first consultation. So it's concentrate on gradually building up the walks to get her back to her pre-op walking routine, keep her weight monitored and all the other do's and don'ts on my hand-out from him. On the weight front Juno weighed 23.5kg today 250gr less than 2 weeks ago so really pleased that she's the same weight as the day of her operation. So now crossing everything that we can slowly build the walks and start enjoying life one day at a time.....
Re: 6 weeks down...... What a relief, I am so pleased for you. My Lab broke his elbow at 16 weeks and at his last x-ray at 8 months I was told he had arthritis, he is now just 9 years old and no obvious sign of arthritis, he has Synoquin every day. So let's hope that the same is for Juno.
So pleased that you've been free from arthritis; unfortunately Juno is unlikely to remain free as although the operation has been successful she still has some dysplasia as her Ulna is too long on the right. The surgeon described it to me as feeling as if you're wearing a pair of shoes a size too small. Diet, weight and supplements just help in the fight.
That's great news - you're on the home straight.
Thank you Julie for all the advice and support, Charlie couldn't be in better hands to see him through the next months. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the support I've had from the forum since Juno's diagnosis. I wouldn't have coped, or kept sane, without it. (Although some would question my sanity at the best of times 8))
Re: 6 weeks down...... Ah I hope you opened a bottle of wine to enjoy with the rest of your dinner to celebrate good news x
