    Hi folks!!

I'm going through a rough time with maddie at the moment. She's seffinaty going through the teenage stage!! Recently when I'm telling her no she nips my leg and barks, it's so painful and I don't know why she's started doing this. She has never done anything like this before and she does know the meaning if the word. At the moment it appears to be falling on deaf ears but when I do get through to her she nips and keeps nipping. When I try to walk away or turn around she nips again. She's really upsetting me at the minute because other than this she's lovely.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do with her when she starts this I can't seem to win with her. Anyone suggestions please!!!

Can't say I have had this problem so just guessing at the moment. I imagine she is very excited when doing this and it is more of a game than aggression? Could you divert her attention onto a toy or a ball and get her to play with you with those? You can then teach her to play with the toy and then stop and release the toy on command, when she does that, then offer her the toy again, so that she learns the word "stop" means exactly that.

Hi there, is this just happening when you are getting into conflict with her? Can you describe a bit more about what happens - is it after playing or walks?

You could try isolating her? When Murphy was nipping (although this was when he was only 3 months old) as soon as he did it we would get up and quickly walk out of the room and shut the door on him, then wait for about 5 seconds and then as long as he wasn't barking crying or scratching we would open the door and then ignore him for a bit until he was minding his own business again. If he ran into the other room first then we would shut him in there. It worked really well and only took a few isolations for him to get the message. Now occasionally if he is really naughty we do it now and it only takes one go and he calms right down and tends to just lie down and have a snooze afterwards.

It's so frustrating when they are nipping and I really hope when Murphy gets to the dreaded teenage years which I have heard so much about on this forum he doesn't start nipping again. It was the worst thing for me!
    Hang in there :)

She starts after playing or a training session. If I then go to move her toy, walk away or go for the remote which she loves to Steele!!she nips and growls ..her tails wagging like mad and then she darts off running round like a mad woman and then the leaping up and nipping starts. You literally can not move lol or she chases you and it makes her worse. She then eventually calms down and flops on floor after she's gone silly! Her tail wags non stop.she does scare me a little bit especially when's she's running straight at me.

It sounds very much like an over tired child! My young Lab throws himself about or bum tucks the living room when he is over tired and then suddenly crashes out. When Maddie gets like that, pop her on the lead and put her in her crate for a sleep.

I can't offer any solution here, still a newbie myself..Whiskey is gone 10 weeks and apparently he nips and growls at the rest of the family...
I've not seen or heard any of this though, it only seems to be with everyone except me when he's reprimanded.
But I can sense that it's not pleasant going by their reactions, so I am sorry for your trouble..a crate timeout seems like a good solution though.
