Murffi and I love playing this game, all my other dogs think it should be banned, but Murffi can't get enough of it. ;D
I'm not into competitive obedience, I'm happy as long as he just bounces along side of me with his tail wagging. He really enjoys the bit when I break into a jog, he doesn't see that very often :D.
All I am trying to achieve is to keep his focus on me and watch out for very small hand signals that tell him what I would like him to do. ;)

Just got all the way round the small lawn C&C-ing (click and chicken) with a sloppyish heel - but hey, we got round. 32 steps!

Then I come in and see this. Ah.. sigh... if only.... maybe, one day... :-[ Hand signals. I should start doing those.

:D Don't be disheartened, Murffi is a three year old dog with hours and hours of training behind him, yours is a puppy!!! ;) You will get there. :)

Thanks Heidrun! We'll keep going! It is very helpful to see the end result - I've been making notes of the frequency of treats and picked up a fair bit about hand signals.

I think it's a question of getting straight in my mind exactly what I'm doing - and getting the whole command, hand signals, whistle, clicker, treat in the right place, time, frequency, if at all...

It feels a bit like patting my head and rubbing my tummy at times. It all just looks instinctive for more experienced people and as a beginner I can just muddle it. So keep posting the vids! Please!

(Charlie says "did someone say tummy rub...") :D

Heidrun, I love that video because it is exactly what I do with Charlie, oh my word I have been doing something right ;) and it works and I recommend that everyone has a go. At least you have your gounds to do this in, my neighbours watch me in the paddock and comment "what strange training methods Helen" ;D but I don't care who sees me Charlie loves it too and has helped his focus on me and what's in my hand. Helen x

I forgot to add that Kerryn (Moorlands) advised me to do exactly as you do. What fantastic advice. Helen x
