if any of you remember ....i was saying jasper had a limp, took him to the vets who suggested it was puppy waddle,...i was never convinced with this,...never having a dog thought they would know best ....after his short evening walk with my son mark .... jasper had been playing with another small dog :) play time over, mark noticed jasper was limping more,so sat him down on the walkway massaged all his muscles, looked at his feet in between his toes , nothing......so a trip to the vets this evening :( as anyone else noticed limps in there dogs ???

Re: a trip to the vets

Charlie has a wide gait on her back legs sometimes, not so noticeable at other times. Vet has checked the full range of movement on all of her legs, and says it's fine. She just looks too skinny there sometimes, and walking like a bulldog wannabe doesn't help. But other times, can't see it.

I trust our vet absolutely. We've known her for years, she knows all our dogs and us well. She talks to them like an idiot, and cuddles them for no reason for the first five minutes of every appointment, she gorgeous. If we see her out at an event or the supermarket or something, she knows each dog by name and remembers anything we were concerned asks how it's going. Are you happy with your vet?

I'd definitely get it checked if you're unsure about it at all. Use the appointment for everything single thing you can think of that's ever niggled you. Get your money's worth. And leave when you're re assured by what's said, and you've understood completely the course of action for Jasper. x

Poppy limped a bit for a while at around four months, I was terrified we'd caused damage by over-exercising her, but all is well and she stopped the intermittent limp at around six months.

Wound you be able to describe the limp, Lynne? Labradors do tend to waddle a bit. They can walk in a way that involves moving both legs on the same side at the same time, rather than the diagonally opposite legs. That does give a 'pregnant duck' effect...

I'm sure your vet will have a good look at everything :)

So, when he is doing the waddle, how is he moving his legs/feet? Is it 'two left legs forward together' then 'two right legs forward together' then 'two left' etc?

I'm sure that Saturday would be soon enough. It doesn't sounds like a really urgent issue that will suddenly get worse.

yeah that how it is, plus his feet are like a penguin if this makes sense ......looking at his nails, left side seem to be longer than right as if he puts more weight on one side

Re: a trip to the vets

If that's how he walks then it's not necessarily a problem. Obi walks like that too and he's got very good hips and knees (based on x-ray).

So, with the penguin thing - you mean his front feet turn out a bit? I don't think that that is unusual. Obi's turn out a bit. He also has slightly longer nails on one foot but can't remember which. I actually noticed that only this morning.

It sounds like it may be that you don't need to worry just yet. But if you take him to the vet you won't have to wonder about 'what ifs'. :)

As you know Lynne , Sam is a big lad and a big uncoordinated gangly ungraceful puppy, his legs used to look like they didnt know where they were going, until he got to about a year or so old and then everything seemed to come together . He also does what I call his " big cat " walk but our Vet says his hips , legs , joints in general seem strong and no probs , I think we all worry at times x
