Flora's latest delight is to hunt under, through and over the vast piles of cords and logs neatly stacked everywhere from felling 100s of 50ft leylandii. This spaniel heaven is now oozing extremely sticky resinous sap. The only thing I have found so far that will remove it is Swarfega with grainy bits in it which although it doesn't seem to cause her any discomfort doesn't seem very dog friendly and anyway she is has matted sticky areas just under her eyes which obviously I can't Swarfega! On her ears, and body I cut out the matted bits as a last resort. It's the short hair areas that are the real problem. There is no way I can keep her away from the wood as its within the boundary fence. Anyone got any better ideas?

Should have stuck to Labradors!! ;)

Oh wow....I guess the thing that might work to remove it sticky stuff from hair is oil - that's why people say things like mayo, peanut butter etc for glue. it's just the oils in these things that work though, so you could try a vegetable oil or perhaps vaseline on a pad for the hair under her eyes.

And comb Vaseline through her coat before letting her out again....but it'll make an awful mess on the sofa!

It's probably not the same but my cat fell in a bucket of wallpaper paste once and plain old washing up liquid worked a treat in getting it all off!

I would say, not let her out until the leylandii have been removed?
Thanks for the suggestion Julie, I've just given olive oil a go on the patch between her eyes....she's not keen on the brill cream look but it seems to have done the trick....as for the sofa, least said :-\

Could be five years!!!! All being seasoned for The next few years fuel for the wood burner ..after all she needs somewhere warm to lie in the evenings! :)

Oh dear.. I remember it well - we only cut down about 20 of the beastly things, and it was a terrible mess.

Can they be burned in the wood burner? I thought the resin was of some evil consistency that destroys the chimney.. ?
yes they are fine to burn in the wood burner according to our sweep, provided they are seasoned. They burn quickly but at the moment I'm thinking the faster the better!

Olive oil definitely works but no sooner do I get her clean she's out there again, so now I have an oily and sticky dog who is moulting as well, oh and the Common where we train is very sandy so add red sand to the mix...imagine the state of the tiles, the carpets, the sofa....I'm going to have to take up housework at this rate ;)

Mmmmmm, she would definitely not approve as shaving is probably the only option..she wouldn't want to be mistaken for a chihuahua :D :D :D

Or a kennel !! Had to whisper that word because she "needs" a sofa and wood burner! :D
