When on our walk on tuesday barley acted very aggressivly towards another dog.

This is the first time in months since this has happend, it was not normal of him. Although it was around 7 o'clock so quite dark but the street we were walking on was well lit with street lights.

The dog came round the corner of the road that we were just crossing, at least 20 meters down the road, but instantly he started barking growling and baring his teeth at it, luckily dad had hold of him otherwise this story would have endedly very differently as he was desperate to get to the dog, it was not a 'i want to say hello to you' bark and growl which he sometimes does when he wans to say hello to a dog, this was different.

This really shook me as i often walk him, by myself now as dad gets in late from work, if it was just me walking him i don't know what i would have done as i would have struggles to hold onto him, he was that bad, i know he is a big strong dog, but i am quite good at holding onto him and know what he is like as i have been the one to do loads of work with him, just one to one.

We have not come across many dogs recently due to him having short walks or going out at unsocial times. Other than the ones we meet at obedience training, he has been fine with them apart from one that went for him. He still is reactive towards chocolate coloured dogs after and incident several months ago but he is much better and we are working on it. This dog was not any of the breeds orn colours on his reactive list it was a sandy coloured crossbreed thing, about labrador size, this dog showed no obvious aggression towards barley either.

I do have half term coming up and i can then take him out at time where can meet other dogs at the park and do some work with him.

This is a set back as he has been doing really well recently and we have been making great progress, so much that he can be in the same class at obedience as a bulldog that is not the most obedient and can ber a nusiance at times, at first he was not happy about it, but we worked and got him there in the end.

Do you think it could be because he hasnt been very well Annabelle ? Dogs often go on the offensive when they arent well and feeling vulnerable, just a thought x

Yes, I wondered the same as Kate - if he a bit stiff and sore, might he be feeling a bit vulnerable?

That is possible, but they way he has been playing the last few days i can't see that being the answer.

he has been wanting to play more, like this morning he as playing with his squeaky hotdog, rolling on it, throwing it around, pushing it across the floor, you would think nothing is wrong with him physically, and we have lowered his joint supplement amount, so it all points to him feeling better. Not had any limping for a few days but a lot more playing.
