My wife thinks Duggan just tore his other rear ACL. I’m not home for a few days but today was the first time he’d been off lead in 5 months. Hoping it’s just a sprain from lack of exercise over the last 5 months since the last surgery in October. Worse part is we never got Health care yet. He wasn’t supposed to be off lead for another week until he was insured.
I'm balking at the thought of what your premiums would be with one major surgery under his belt. Poor Duggan, I hope he hasn't blown the other one.
This sucks. I have been waiting patiently and suffering alongside this poor puppy for 5 months now till he was healed and this weekend I get home and was all excited to take him swimming. He’s been couped up all winter on restricted movement and this was gonna be his weekend....until now. He’s not one to be kept still, he’s high energy and it’s been a challenge for my wife while I’m away to keep him and a toddler occupied. Anyhow. Rant over. I guess he’s off to the vet tomorrow for a diagnosis but I’m pretty sure I know what’s up, another TPLO and 5 months. We are due for another baby in July so I hope he’s better by then.
Let's hope not, but if it is (worse case scenario), you can still get through this. Both you and Duggan are now professionals at the whole rehab thing and when the time is over, you'll have a puppy who can enjoy life normally. It seems like forever, but it will come out OK. Mine had two TPLOs one after the other and while that second torn ACL broke my heart and just about broke my brain, I did find the second surgery not nearly so scary as I knew what to expect, as did my dog. None of us were happy about it, but it wasn't nearly so traumatic, mainly just tedious. But first steps first...maybe some good news at the vet tomorrow.
No luck. And apparently this one is more damaged than the first. He goes for his second TPLO surgery tomorrow so only a two day wait which is good. It rapidly speeds up the recovery bexause you can prevent a lot of the atrophy. My wife almost put him down so I had to agree to have him neutered. She thinks with a newborn and a toddler it will mellow him out and stop the food guarding. I couldn’t win but he’s two next year so I managed to hold it off this long. Owning a dog isn’t always easy. I asked how he was doing and she said he’s trampsing around like he’s not even wounded. Just hope the other leg is healed enough after a slow recovery of 5 months to suport all his weight for the next three weeks. Here we go again. He’ll be back on the ducks by October. Thanks for the suport and kind words.
Oh no, that's not good news. Pretty positive that he is already booked in for the surgery though. Good luck to all of you...
Really sorry to hear this news, you must be gutted. Good that you can get it done quickly, and hopefully this recovery will be a bit quicker.
