Hi...I'm new here and hoping someone can help me out. My English Lab, Roy, is a chewer. Fortunately, he doesn't chew furniture or "objects"....he is obsessed with anything paper, or cloth (for the most part). We have a large property that he can run around and we have a woman that comes and takes him out (in the yard) during the day when I'm at work. I have tried walking him on the trails near my house, but if there is another dog around, all bets are off, and at 80 pounds- he wins. Any suggestions to stop this? Thank you, Syndi
Hi Syndi and welcome to the forum. You've arrived just in the middle of our transition to new forum software, which is why it's a bit quiet. I'm sure more people will be along once they've transferred their accounts over to the new system. Roy is a great name for an English Lab The best thing to do if you have a dog that likes chewing things, is to ensure that there's nothing like that in reach. It takes a little time to adjust to this yourself, but it's by far the most effective method. My Willow will steal my oven mitts if she can, to have a good suck on (even if they're fresh out of the washing machine), so I have to make sure I put them away after every use. When you're talking about him being out and about, do you mean he pulls on the lead? If so, here is an article that may help you: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/how-to-stop-your-labrador-pulling-on-the-lead/ Otherwise, let us know what the problem is, and we'll see what advice we can come up with. We'd love to see some pictures of Roy if you have a chance
Hi and welcome to the forum. I was just about to reply yesterday evening when the forum went down for its move. I agree with Fiona's comments regarding the chewing, removing everything is the only sure fire way. Please tell us us more about the walking problem, is Roy off lead or on lead?
