Bob keeps licking his bum. His anal glands might need squeezing. Apparently if they lick a lot that is the most likely reason. Another trip to the vets I think. I'm buggered if I'm doing it I watched a video earlier!!! Lol!

Honestly Bob you are on one hell of a roll at the moment!!!!

Yep, shouldn't have read that one while eating breakfast!

Thankfully I don't know too much about anal glands but I know it was advertised as a service offered by most of the groomers I looked at. Maybe Bob can combine a pamper and a squeeze ☺

Ha ha yes not even considered that as an option actually. Do Labradors go to grooming parlours?! I thought it was more the toy dogs or those that didn't moult.

I dropped Ella off for a brush and a hydro bath when she was shedding her winter coat so that they could try and remove a lot of the loose stuff. I might do that twice a year when she has a big shed, just to help with the tumble weed control at home hehe

Ella loves a bath though and the one that I've taken her to is part of her daycare so really it's just a treat for her: bath and a play! ☺

Omg Emily are you in the UK? Didn't even realise these places existed! Bob's never had a bath before. He'd probably freak out! But I'd be interested to see what sort of places are about. He's moulting like a trooper ATM xxx

Our daycare is a grooming salon too, so Obi gets the occasional bath and blow dry. Once he had de-shed as well. So, yeah, they are for wash-and-wear Labradors too :)

I'm liking this idea a LOT!!! Will do some investigation. Although Bob never had a bath before. And I'd be worried about stressing him out?!

The drying part can be stressful, because they use a strong blower to blast water out of the coat and this is loud. Maybe do a bit of ringing round and see how they'd handle a dog new to the experience so they stayed relaxed. Some grooming salons haven't a clue about dogs, while others are knowledgable about dog behaviour. Do your research :)

Loopyloo30 both Rachael and I are in Australia. The particular grooming package that I selected doesn't involve drying so I have no idea how Ella would go with that but she loves a bath.

We already knew she loved the bath so we weren't worried but there are plenty of places around here that you can pay to use the hydro bath yourself so you might want to give it a go yourself first to see how Bob goes.

Ah, anal glands. Dogs can suffer from full anal glands that need attention. Metallic smell..
This can be down to diet, if their poo is soft the anal glands do not get massaged, we have found that by adding some bran to the usual meals firms up the poo and massages the anal glands. Feeding a diet with bones in also helps (raw).
Any way of firming the poo will do the job, complete fish i,e mackeral, salmon, trout, sardines skin bones and heads.

I agree with Rachel, do your research on groomers. I was lucky that our dog trainer introduced me to a lovely lady in one of his other classes that had just started up her own grooming business just as I needed to get Hattie groomed. Hattie has been going to her for
over 7 years with no problems, she goes in jumps on the table ready to be groomed. Sarah's Mum visits Hattie everytime as she loves her, she also gets taken out for wee and water breaks and a leg stretch as it takes 2 hours for Hattie's coat. I wouldn't go to anyone else as I trust her implicitly. I have recommended her to lots of my friends. I also went to Agility classes with Sarah, she has two of her own dogs and lives for them, she rarely goes on holiday and if she does she goes where her dogs are welcome :)

I visited two groomers previously one of which was a chain and I was so upset seeing dogs in crates piled up on top of each other, dogs whining, crying, dogs on various tables at various stages of grooming. Awful, I took one brief look and left with Hattie immediately. Groomers are just like everything else they need research but when you find a good one stick with them. x

Oh gosh that sounds horrendous! I will do some investigation on groomers. In the meantime a quick visit to the vets tomorrow is required I think
