    Hi

We finally, after nearly a year of planning, brought our new black lab puppy home yesterday. He is just over 8 weeks old.

Yesterday he played and slept in his crate and explored but today he seems to just be sleeping, he hasnt really been that interested in playing (he has played a little). He now also will only sleep next to me and partner. I just wanted to know if this was normal?

He was vet checked this morning and all was ok.

Any tips or advice would be gratefully appreciated. We have wanted a lab.luppy for years and now its happened we don't want to make any mistakes.

    Thank

Aww.. bless. It is perfectly normal, very young pups spend most of their time sleeping, especially at that young age. In addition so much has happened in the last couple of days and that needs a lot of processing for a tiny pup! Even a short trip to the vet is exhausting! So many new smells and strange experiences to think about. Don't worry, won't be long and you will be longing for that sleephead of a pup! :)

If he's drinking, eating, pooing, playing and sleeping then all is well.

Do look out for lethargy/not drinking as young pups do easily get dehydrated, other than this fear not ~ he's had a lot to contend with in a short time.

Aw bless, enjoy this time. He's still a baby, give him a few weeks and he'll find his feet :doug:

I had that worry too a few weeks ago, but just remember your pup is a baby and babies sleep most of the day. My boy had days when he played a lot, then the following day slept the day away, just waking to eat, drink, pee and poop. In fact at 13 weeks he still sleeps quite a bit.

As others have said your pup is very young, and like a human has only a few requirements - sleep, food, water, pee, poop, play and lots of love. Make the most of these quiet times - they won't last :)

Hi and welcome, looking forward to hearing about all the puppy antics. Once he wakes up and finds his feet, which he will do :tail:

Take more photos of him while he's feeling sleepy - :tail:it's easier than trying to catch a moving puppy! He looks lovely in your profile photo.

Any tips for introducing the hoover? Just tried and he had a nervous wee.

He is happy yo sniff it when it's turned off....

We put treats on ours and left it running but stationary. Ella was a little cautious but approached and took the treats. We then taught her to sit on the couch when we get the vacuum cleaner out so she feels a comfortable distance from it and it keeps her out of the way while we clean!
