Hi all, We've been very pleased with Harvey when it comes to house-training. * He sleeps through the night in his crate without any mess (typically 10.45pm to 6.15am) which seems pretty good for an 8 week pup. * He has never done a poo in the house. * There have been very few wee accidents (and, frankly, the ones we have had were our fault - dropped our guard!) The thing is, we look for the signs that Harvey needs to go and then we carry him out to the back garden to do his business. We have tried to get him to go to the backdoor himself but he seems reluctant - and this resulted in one of the accidents. What do you find to be the best way of encouraging your dog to let you know that he needs to go? (I'd like a situation whereby not only are we looking for signs but also Harvey is trying to tell us )
Re: Another toilet training query I can't really help with this as puzzle picked it up off of barley that he went to the back door to go out and she just learnt off of him, or if no one is paying attention she will find someone and whine or push them with her nose before returning to the back door and she will sit there waiting for someone to open it
Re: Another toilet training query I don't know a way to encourage it - although there was talk of getting a dog to jangle cow bells by nudging his nose against them everytime you take him out, I got the cow bells but that was as far as I got before I had other, more pressing, training priorities! Charlie just started quietly sitting by the back door - at about 6 months. We know now, if he disappears, and we don't hear him getting a drink, he is sitting waiting to go out. I think it's best not to encourage whining or barking in terms of a going out signal.
