My latest pup, Lulu loves to pick things up. I've had some success in getting her to pick up dropped clothes and pull off my socks. She's so biddable and I feel she's probably wasted with me and would probably have made a great working Gundog but my health sadly means that's not an option (I'm agoraphobic and have metal hips as it means my former hobby of agility is out of the question. ) Anyone got any useful tips?
Re: Anyone any experience of training an assistance dog? Are you after tips for teaching her new skills at home? Or are you thinking of something along the lines of pets as therapy work?
Re: Anyone any experience of training an assistance dog? New skills at home. Whilst they do have pets as therapy here it's not something I could get involved in. She is very receptive to clicker training. My goodness, she is the brightest dog I've ever had.
Re: Anyone any experience of training an assistance dog? Hi, you could clicker train her to put your washing in and take it out of the machine. On another thread 'Clicker train challenge', I have just taught my rescue dog to take the washing out of the basket and drop it on the floor within 1 minute and within 30 seconds take the washing out of the machine, really good fun Take a look there were some other tricks other members have taught their dogs too. I bet the list is endless for a bright dog like yours
