We put up our Christmas tree over the weekend, and so far, Rue has done well with leaving the actual tree alone. She is WAY more interested in the presents underneath the tree. Causalities so far: 1 bow She is doing better than I thought she would, though. A couple timeouts has done the trick. But we still have another month. And I'm sure if we left her in there for even 2 minutes by herself, you would find me curled up in the fetal position. "Hi, can I eat dis?" rue tree by rue7514, on Flickr
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? ;D ;D We just did what we always did and put up a real tree for the first few years, though Lilly would have been 6 months for her first Christmas. It was a bit bald at the bottom from tail-wagging by the end, and we made sure there was NO foodstuff whatsoever within her reach on or under the tree. But then Lilly was never a counter-surfing girl. It's fun. But fraught. ;D
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Yep lost 3 baubles but it's up and it's staying up. I'm adamant on that. The rocking snowman is another story I've had to move that. He hates the music but likes to eat it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/sbnp0nj2owjvsyl/2014-11-30 09.13.54.jpg?dl=0
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? We haven't decided on if we'll put a tree up of not....some years we do, some not...it's more that it's only ever the two of us (plus furry family members) and some years I just can't be bothered. But I will also qualify that statement by saying...our tree is just a 2 foot tall artificial one anyway...so sits in a spot where Bella wouldn't be tempted anyway. We'll see how I feel about it on Sunday...
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Yep, ours is going up after 10th December when our daughter is home from Uni. Last year Harley had a good look and sniff, but left it alone. Hoping for the same this year :
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? We will be braving a tree, ours probably won't go up for another fortnight so slightly less time spent yelling at Inca for jumping all over it!
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Putting up my real Charlie Brown tree, but not til the 19th when I'm home full time to supervise. We've had a bit of snow here. Piper's first. She is much fascinated by the icy chunks she can grab out of frozen puddles.
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? After this past weekend in the ER, I am not sure what to do. I know he will go for the ornaments. I also work from home, but believe me, Mr. Louie can be very sneaky about things LOL. I just laugh but don't show him that. I need to figure out the search and fetch games mentioned. This site is so HUGE!! All of the information is so important. I think I will get a smaller tree and put it up on the sewing machine. I can't afford another ER visit. Boy that is expensive. So Kongs are the toys for Christmas? Thanks. Kathy and Louie
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Taking Zac to the farm with us on Friday to cut down ours. I have no idea what to expect, but with two little ones - can't exactly NOT have a tree! He always on a leash so that we can prevent issues / correct him so hopefully that will work. Should be fun! It's a good thing he is cute!
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Cutting your own must make it feel so much more fun! It's hard to believe it's that close with warm temps and no snow here. Is anyone barricading their tree? Having raised Boxer pups with Christmas trees, I have had the busted ornaments and not looking forward to it with an almost six month old lab puppy who loves sticks and harassing bushes.
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Can't miss out on the Christmas tree! We're being ultra brave and planning to put it up where it usually goes... in the sitting room.... which is where Pongo sleeps and has free run ALL NIGHT.... It won't be up for a couple of weeks yet but will let you know how it goes
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Ours will be up in a week or so, normally have a huge real tree, I suspect Benson will be a nightmare..so all the decs no doubt will start half way up..and absolutely no food. I don't think Casper will be a problem...(famous last words! ;D)
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? We are getting one - a real one - but Mr Boogs has just started decorating (the painting sort!) so who knows when .... :-\ : ???
Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Since one of ours (Lucy Manchester terrier) many years ago ate Christmas tree lights - had 12 inches of wire and 7 bulbs removed surgically on Christmas eve we no longer put anything within doggy reach. So yes we will be putting up the tree but it will be on a table well out of everyone's paw and mouth reach.

Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree? Ours will be going up in about ten days time , the dogs are usually good and after an initial sniff, they ignore it, unlike our cat who, three years ago , decided that this was his very own indoor activity centre , mistake :
