Would anyone else be interested in finding out whether any of our pups are (closely) related?

Pongo's kennel name is Shadowsquad. Does anyone else have any Shadowsquad up their family trees?

He's also got a few Poolstead, Brightwalton and Sandylands ancestors.

Haha - I'd love to do this but the answer is certainly yes, most of our dogs are related.

Charlie has Sandylands in his pedigree, most of the lines lead back there at some point...I'll go look up a recent dog and see if we can spot a common ancestor of Pongo and Charlie?

That's fun! Pongo's Sandylands ancestors are Gad-About, My Guy, Bliss, and Gypsy of Rockabee..... any match?

So via Sh Ch Keydella Keswick
    And then Keydella Karousel
We get to Kupros Master Marina - lots and lots of show line dogs will be able to spot this dog in their pedigree
Then to the Sandylands dogs (Mark dam was Truth and sire was Reanacre Mallardhurn Thunder - from Sandylands and Blaircourt)

um....are we talking about the same Sandylands....or even the same period? Sandylands Mark was from 1965. We'd have to be looking about in the same period, I suppose.

We could start at the other end....I have FT.W. Brocklehirst Daisy from 1929...and still some Banchory dogs in 1930! ;D ;D ;D

Hmmm, yes. I don't have dates for mine; Gad-About is Pongo's great-great-grandfather, the others are his great-great-great-grandparents. How long is a labrador generation - about 3-5 years? So that would place them somewhere in the late 1990's....

JulieT, how did you manage to trace Charlie back to the Banchory Bolo dogs and is it very time consuming?

Not at all, all you need is your dog's full pedigee name and the K9 database...

Here, for example, is sandylands mark, a dog that appears in Charlie's pedigree (actually, there are a few as it turns out...). Just click on the dog in his history that you want to look at..and you can go back, and back, and back....

As Julie quotes K9 data.com is way to find the ancestors.
Have done a few search's for our girls, and its suprising how they are connected way back.

Bella has a line back to:
Dual CH Bramshaw Bob and his GGF DualCh Banchory Bolo.

Not that she looks like any of them LOL.

I had a lot of fun tracing back chocolate dogs in Charlie's pedigree - on his mum's side there are fair few pets, and since they were called "chocolate box" and "choc truffle" ;D ;D ;D I reckoned it was a fair bet they were Chocolate! Then, later, the colour information is entered on K9 and there are quite a lot of pictures on http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/

The obvious chocolates run out and reach a black dog, this dog:

This is Tweed of Blaircourt, from 1958 and known to carry chocolate. There is a claim that all show line dogs in the UK will have Tweed in their pedigree somewhere, although I don't know if that's true.

Peter of Faskilly was known to carry chocolate, but I can't find for definite an earlier dog than that, although on Pedigreedatabase.com Buccleuch Avon is recorded as carrying chocolate.

There. Just about all your Labradors are related to Chocolates. ;D ;D ;D That's why they are a bit nutty.

Definitely related to Chocolates then, both of Banchory Bolo's champion sons - Corbie and Danilo - carried chocolate, and Peter of Faskilly was Bolo's grandfather.
