Our beautiful Ellie is nearly 13 year old (still a puppy) has started limping quite badly.

It started about 6 months ago on our normal walks, we noticed she was limping slightly on her front left leg.

Off to the vets and they gave her an injection and prescribed carprieve 50mg twice a day with half a paracetamol if required.

A few days later she was back to her bouncy self.

At the start of December the limp came back, so off to the vets.

This time they prescribed carprieve 100mg one tablet daily.

We also bought Lintbells Yumove supplements to help her along.

Suffice to say, she hasn't really improved and today she is quite bad and a bit wobbly on her feet, but she hasn't fallen over.

She's not her usual self and seems to just want to rest apart when she thinks we're about to make some food for ourselves.

We're thinking she would be better going back onto the twice a day 50mg dose to spread the effect over the day.

Just don't want her to suffer with any pain and think it must be bad as she's unbelievably stoic

    Any advice is much appreciated.

I would take her back to the vet. There are loads of different drugs and combinations of drugs to help with arthritis, it's a case of trial and error to find the right one/s.

My own Lab suffers with arthritis too. He can't take NSAIDs as he's got a very sensitive stomach so does well on Gabapentin and Yumove Advance, but it took several months of experimenting before we found what worked.

Let us know how Ellie gets on.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum, sorry to hear your dog is in pain. I agree with Mandy you may need to try several different meds in order to find one that suits your dog. Have a chat with your vet about increasing / changing her meds. Hope she improves soon and good luck with her treatment.

Hi our old girl had arthritis and we have her green lip muscle supplement, this really seemed to help our girl. Maybe you could research it or ask your vet. Worth a try.

Our 13 year old Airedale Terrier who passed away last year had Arthritis really bad. The only thing that eased his pain was Derramaxx.

Tilly gets Derramaxx when she limps a lot. I try to minimize the use, but she does need it when she is very active.
