I can't believe how much my boy has grown :( I knew he would grow quickly but not this quickly! And he's even a pup still! Maybe we will have to bring home a golden retriever once Aspen is old enough...;)

I can't believe just how quickly they grow! I just keep comparing him to a human child (lol) and the differences are insane to me! And thank you :)

Me too! I was wondering if it would turn a bit pink as he had the pink ring when we first brought him home but I am thinking it will stay! Dad is a Red lab and Mom is a chocolate. Crazy how those colors work out!

The colour genetics of Lab is pretty interesting. Here's an article: https://www.vetgen.com/chromagene-coat-color-a.html

Do you know what colour the other pups were? You can see from the chart that the dam would be either bbEE (only chocolate genes) or bbEe (chocolate with yellow genes) and the sire, who is yellow with a black nose, must be either BBee (yellow with black genes) or Bbee (yellow, but with both black and chocolate genes).

But, then you look down at the possible combinations of colours to be produced from the mating, and, in order for yellows to be produced, the dam must absolutely be bbEe (chocolate with yellow genes). If there were chocs in the litter, the sire must be Bbee, otherwise, the chances are he's BBee.

The litter was blacks and yellows! I don't even know how to begin understanding the chart...genetics were not my strong suit in science class :p

Anyways, this is mom & dad. Some of the yellows in the litter also had pink noses! [IMG]
