Bob has just (we think) fallen down our kitchen stairs.. he can't put his back right foot down at all He does get under my feet quite a bit but I don't think I trod on him otherwise I would have heard him yelp. Taking him to the vets in a minute. He's whining lots and has settled down by my feet. Doesn't seem to want to go anywhere else. We've managed to locate a narrow stair gate that will fit between kitchen and dining room which I'm going to buy later today. I'm so worried he's really hurt himself Nightmare! Lou x
Re: Back to vets Poor Bob! Hope it's just a bruise and he's being a drama queen. It's clear from your posts how much you care for him, so I know you'll do the best by him. Sounds like a baby gate is a good idea. We don't have any steps for Willow to fall down, but it doesn't stop her spending a large part of her awake time landing on her face. They're pretty clumsy at this age!
Re: Back to vets Thank you all for your kind wishes . The vet said that he's probably strained his hind leg slightly when he landed, he moved it around and Bob seemed a bit uncomfortable, but not majorly. He put weight down on all 4 feet too, which is good. And he scratched his collar using that leg too while he was there. Vet said he won't give him any anti inflammatories as he's still got a bit of a dicky tummy... but just to keep things quiet for a couple of days. Off to get a stair gate in a minute. Ours in a 4 storey town-house and we've got steps everywhere, including the garden! Nightmare! £66 in 2 days on vets fees Bob! You are cleaning me out!!!!!! Lou x
Re: Back to vets Ah, bless 'im! With a bit of luck it will make him more wary of stairs. Hope he gets better soon. Pongo sends licks. Rosie
Re: Back to vets Poor little fella, glad he's ok. It takes a while for them to get the hand of steps! The other day we were walking down a disused railway line and Maisie came clattering down a set of old steps in the bank at high speed, how she didn't to herself any major damage I do not know! On the second visit there, she was far more cautious!
Re: Back to vets I'm glad Bob isn't seriously hurt...hopefully a few days rest will bring him back to full fettle.Ive got a 2 year old that was prone to the odd hurtle down the stairs ,skid on the tiles and inevitable crash into the wall and skirting.Stacia cautioned me ( from her personal experience of recuperating a dog with a broken elbow )that the most common cause of broken elbows was charging downstairs and crashing into the wall :-[ so I've slowed him down now ....just something to consider if you have a lot of stairs x
Re: Back to vets Just to add that my Lab broke his elbow at 16 weeks by jumping over a little stream and hitting his elbow on small rock, the only one there! The vet at the specialist hospital said that many fractured elbows are from running down the stairs and crashing into the wall as Dexter mentioned.
Re: Back to vets Aw you are all so lovely, thank you for your kind wishes. Bob seems much better this evening so feeling happier now... Lou x
